Pumpkin Seed Day meets Random Acts of Poetry Day

Pumpkin Seed Day meets Random Acts of Poetry Day

Posted by Sandy on Oct 5th 2022

The First Wednesday in October is here! I know, not a normal thing to be excited about, but when I realized that there are so many things to celebrate today, I decided to combine two.

I now present my random poem about pumpkin seeds…

*********************

A bright orange squash

Sits before me

My knife glides in

What do I see?

The pumpkin seeds

Encrusted in flesh

Surrounded by strings

Such a mess

My spoon goes in

Scraping all around

I pull up a scoop

And plop it right down

Over and over

Until the cavity is clear

Why do I do this

Year after year?

Pumpkin seeds

On a sheet of foil

Roasted to perfection

With salt and oil

Why do I continue?

How am I not bored?

The toasty goodness

From the guts of a gourd

When you carve your jack-o'-lantern, what do you do with the pumpkin seeds? Toss? Roast? Plant? In a week or so I’ll be roasting them, but today they inspire a random poem.

What you can do today:

  • Write a poem or share your favorite peom
  • Visit your local pumpkin patch
  • Roast some pumpkin seeds (or just buy some)
  • Forget about both and just shout “hump day!”

Whatever you do, enjoy it! There's always something to celebrate.
